Six Ways to Make Water Fun

April 28, 2021

By Isabella Swiecicki – Dietetic Intern, Duke Lifestyle & Weight Management Center.

The weather is getting warmer. We are starting to head outside more often. Stay hydrated and increase your water intake with these six simple flavor ideas.

Add Fresh Fruit

  • Fruit adds some fresh and natural sweetness.
  • Craving something sweet? Add strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, or watermelon.
  • Want something refreshing? Try cucumber, ginger, or mint.
  • Go citrus: Add lemon, lime, or orange slices.
  • Add the fruit or herb of your choice to a pitcher of water.

Add Fast Flavor

  • Opt for something quick like a Crystal Light packet or Stir flavor-enhancing drops.
  • Buying flavored water is also an option. Hint is a popular brand of flavored water.

Make It a Mash

  • Mash strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries at the bottom of a glass and add water.

Curb the Craving for Carbonation

  • Instead of sugary soda, try flavored sparkling water to satisfy sweetness and carbonation without the calories.

Brew Your Flavored Water

  • Add fruit-flavored teas to a large pitcher of water
  • The longer the tea bags are in the water, the more flavorful they will become.

Make Fun Ice Cubes

  • Freeze 100% fruit juices such as cherry, pineapple, or apple to make juice ice cubes to add to your water. This will give you a diluted juice flavor without all the calories!
