Heal Yourself with Tapping and Dreaming

December 5, 2018

By Larry Burk, MD, CEHP

Would you like to tap into your own powers of self-healing?

Do you ever use your dreams for healing guidance?

You have powerful tools at your fingertips for self-healing.

Start with a dream diary and write down a health-related question that you would like an answer to from the dreamworld. Tap yourself to sleep with Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) using your 2nd and 3rd fingertips on the acupoints to release any blocks you have to healing left over from the day. Keep your diary by your bedside and write down any dreams you get in response to your question. Identify the most distressing parts of your dreams and use the Dream to Freedom Technique to tap on these important transformative messages from your subconscious.

Explore a multidimensional approach to dream interpretation

It is useful to include personal, shadow, warning, sexual, social, archetypal, synchronistic, and precognitive perspectives. Circle any words that seem to be unusual or out of place and look them up in a dictionary to check for word play or unexpected puns related to your question. Check for any recurrent theme from past dreams and pay attention to any animals that visited you in the dream world. Finally ask yourself, “What does the dream want?” Seriously consider the possibility that the spirit world may have a question it wants you to answer in return.

Tapping can transform nightmares into healing guidance

When you find a shadow aspect of yourself in your dream, EFT is an excellent alchemical way to transform that leaden darkness into enlightened gold. When a negative experience occurs, it is as if a malware program you don’t want is installed in your acupuncture meridian system. Tapping on the acupuncture points is like hitting the delete key, so you can uninstall the program. Once the program is gone and you resave the file, the memory will be altered forever. The next time you open the file the pictures and story will still be there, but the program will be gone. Then your body will not respond in a negative way, so you will have emotional freedom.

Approach your symptoms as if they are dream symbols

Once you learn how to deal with your nightmares in this way, you can address your symptoms in your physical body in the same fashion, since it all may be a waking dream anyway. In the Tapping into Health: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) for Self-Healing course, we will begin with physical symptoms related to grief such as sinusitis, postnasal drip and bronchitis. Food cravings will also be tapped on to facilitate weight loss.  Autoimmune and pain-related conditions such as MS, ALS, interstitial cystitis, chronic urticaria and frozen shoulder will be addressed as somatic metaphors for healing.
