What motivated you to apply to the Health & Well-Being Coach Training?

Health and Well-being Coaching is a service that we offer our clients here at the Duke Health & Fitness Center, so I wanted to better understand the concept of coaching and how it can enhance the lives of our clients. We truly customize the client experience at the Health & Fitness Center, so this is just one tool in the toolbox that clients can use to support their health and wellness goals.

“We took a deep dive into the coaching process model each week and had small group opportunities to fine-tune and build on our learned skills.”

Please describe your experience in the program.

I came into the program a bit naïve in my understanding of health coaching. The program is robust, covers the science and psychology of coaching, and immerses you in hands-on, interactive practice. We took a deep dive into the coaching process model each week and had small group opportunities to fine-tune and build on our learned skills. The homework and reading in between classes further enhanced the weekly learning objectives.

“The program expanded my knowledge and understanding of how coaching can be incorporated into various wellness industries.”

How did the program help you grow professionally?

Not only did I come away as a certified health coach, but the program expanded my knowledge and understanding of how coaching can be incorporated into various wellness industries. There is so much opportunity for this service and how it can impact one’s personal health journey by putting them in the driver’s seat.

What would you tell others considering applying to the program?

You come away from the program ready to coach clients/patients with confidence in your skills and abilities as a coach. We are coaching the person, not the “problem,” and that couldn’t be more rewarding. I highly recommend this program to anyone considering becoming a health coach.
